What is Holistic Dentistry?

Holistic dentistry, also known as biological dentistry is an approach to dental care that considers the patient’s overall health and well-being, rather than just focusing on the teeth and gums.

New Patient Examination

At Kateri Clinic we allocate 30 minutes for a new patient exam because we want to take the time to thoroughly examine not just your teeth but the whole of your mouth.

We want to have the time to get know you and your expectations.

Unless you have had x-rays within the last 12 months, we will carry out 2 small x-rays to view the teeth internally.

Dental Examinations

These appointments usually take about 20 minutes and will involve your dentist asking you about your medical history.

They will examine all your teeth and if necessary, discuss any potential treatment options.

x-rays aren’t taken routinely at every exam appointment, only if there is a justified clinical benefit.

Children Examinations

We try to keep the dental experience as relaxed as possible to leave a good lasting memory so that children grow up with no reason to feel anxious about going to the dentist.

We will only take x-rays if they are necessary to assist with a clinical diagnosis.

Periodontal Disease

With an estimated 3 out of every 4 adults in the UK having gum disease we put a lot of emphasis on good oral hygiene and offer treatments for gingivitis and periodontal disease.

If periodontal disease is caught early, we can treat it by carrying out root surface debribment to reduce bacteria followed by biolase to stimulate healing.

If periodontal disease is advance than we will refer you to see a specialist

Sports Guards

If you or your child engages in contact sports, a sports guard is a crucial investment. Protecting against dental injuries, trauma, and tooth loss, this cost-effective solution offers superior defence for face, teeth, jaw, and gums.

Repairing dental trauma is expensive, so our custom-made mouth guards is a sensible choice.

Bite Guards

Many adults clench and grind their teeth. If you clench and or grind your teeth you may experience jaw ache, headaches, and earache. Overtime this can all damage the surface of the teeth and potentially lead to tooth loss.

Tooth grinding and clenching is a subconscious habit so its not something that you can just stop doing.

It is quite often exaggerated by stress, anxiety and sleep issues.

A bite guard is custom made to fit your teeth and help to protect them from the damage done from clenching and or grinding.

Dental Hygiene

At Kateri Clinic we believe that the mouth is a pathway to the body, bacteria in the mouth has been linked to medical conditions such as heart disease, respiratory disease, dementia, and bowel cancer. For pregnant women it can be harmful to an unborn baby. Because of this we feel that hygiene treatment is very important.

A typical hygiene appointment will take between 30-45 minutes, our hygienist will check your medical history and ask you some general questions about your oral hygiene routine.

Treatment will usually be a thorough clean of all teeth to remove plaque, calculus, and staining. The hygienist will also assess the health of the gums and check for diseases such as gingivitis and periodontal disease.

At the end of the appointment if the hygienist feels it will be beneficial, they will give some advice on oral hygiene.
